Yamaichi’s Futari Bitsu (Rice Chest for Two) is suitable for preserving rice. It uses Kiso sawara cypress, one of “Kiso Goboku” (Kiso’s Five Softwood Evergreens) which is light and provides excellent air permeability. This compact ohitsu is perfect for keeping an amount of 2 go (a Japanese unit for a cup of rice). Since it is small, it will not take up space whether you place it on the dining table or put it in the refrigerator.
■Details
The ohitsu is made with rare “masame” (straight grain) of Kiso sawara cypress. As the wood is highly resistant to water and acid, you can use it to preserve cooked white rice or for vinegar rice. The ohitsu will absorb excess moisture from freshly cooked rice (transferred from a rice cooker) and control the humidity. Furthermore, it can prevent rice from getting dried up or sticky, and you will be able to enjoy the chewy texture and umami flavor even after it has cooled.
Carefully made by Kiso wood craftsmen, freshly cooked rice combined with the subtle scent of Kiso sawara cypress will stimulate your appetite for sure. This product comes with a rice ladle made from Kiso Japanese cypress, therefore, it is ideal to use at home but also as a gift. A copper taga (loop) securely fixes the ohitsu making it very firm and long lasting, but make sure that you completely dry it after use.
